India QSR Operations — Store Expansions, Closures & Network Dataset
Store expansion has accelerated sharply since FY 2021–22, with gross openings more than doubling from 480 stores in the COVID-hit FY 2020–21 to 1,650 in FY 2025–26, while closures have stayed in a tight 60–75 store/year band post-pandemic — well below the 180-store spike seen during FY 2020–21's rationalization. This has pushed net store additions from just 300 in FY 2020–21 to 1,575 in FY 2025–26, the fastest network growth of the period. At the same time, the ownership mix has steadily shifted toward franchising, with the franchise (FOFO/FOCO) share rising from 34% to 46% of outlets as chains lean on asset-light expansion to fund this pace of growth, while the company-owned (COCO) share has fallen correspondingly from 66% to 54%.
