Analyst Note
India's real GDP grew 7.8% year-on-year in Q1 FY2026-27 (April–June 2026), comfortably beating the RBI's 7% forecast and accelerating from 6.9% in Q1 FY26, though moderating from the revised 8.6% pace in Q4 FY26. Nominal GDP rose 10.3% to ₹88.27 Lakh Crore, sharply higher than the 8.1% nominal growth a year earlier. Growth was broad-based: the tertiary sector expanded 10.0%, led by a 12.1% surge in Financial, Real Estate, IT & Professional Services, while manufacturing grew 9.2% and Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) rose 11.9% in real terms — signaling a pickup in investment-led momentum even as agriculture (3.6%) and mining (-2.4%) softened. Private consumption (PFCE) remained the largest demand driver at ₹50.22 Lakh Crore, growing 7.1% in real terms and continuing to anchor over half of GDP.
