The chemical sector (Division 20) contributed ₹316,036 crore GVA (current prices) in FY 2023-24, and ₹230,852 crore at constant prices.
Including pharmaceuticals (Division 21), the combined GVA was ₹594,186 crore — 2.17% of all economic activities.
The sector employed 11.4 lakh workers in FY 2023-24, with Gujarat dominating with 3,424 factories and ₹6,025 crore GVA.
Exports of all chemicals (including pharma & fertilizers) reached ₹6.02 lakh crore in FY 2024-25, while imports were ₹7.27 lakh crore, highlighting the sector's growing import dependency.
